La Feria, TX 81º overcast. Has been overcast for about a week now.
We were shopping at Costco in Pharr, TX last week and a guy was handing out shopping bags with advertising on them. Really nice............except, it split out carrying out first load out to the car. Guess it was worth what we paid for it, or a little less.
Many of you who have spent time in the valley have shopped at H.E.B in Harlingen. I have posted several photos of their huge tent-like front with the enormous flock of birds on it. Photo at left is that same store-----without the white tent top. Picture below is to the right of it. A major remodeling
job is underway and it is loosing that unique look. Imagine it will be finished by the time we come back in the fall.
With the remodeling job done at the office here at Kenwood they wanted a couple 5" x 7" photos to show some activities in the park. I added the titles to these two and made them into the right size and they are now in the office in picture frames.
We stopped last Thursday on Jackson Street in Harlingen at The Railroad Crossing
Discovered they were having a “Jammin’ on Jackson Street with Vance Greek & Friends,”at that Model Railroad clubhouse. The trains weren't set up, but the music was fine. Found they perform twice a month from October thru March and we will plan to attend some full 3-hour sessions when we can.
This Winter Texan Times site tells about it.
Though I don't do birthdays, Phyllis was happy to have 5 other couples join us at a Chinese buffet in Weslaco last Thursday evening to celebrate her birthday.
All enjoyed the visit and it was the last get-together with Doris and Lyle Winter. They have moved their trailer to a San Juan park and are heading home to Minnesota this weekend.
Bob & Bobbi are leaving next week as are Bill & Twila.
Though Marti is pictured, Carl was off filling his plate when this photo was taken. They have bought a 5th wheel to leave here at Kenwood permanently. They will drive their Motor-home home to near St. Louis and drive down this fall in a car.
Phyllis is off to the nail place and I am working on some minor repair work in the trailer getting ready to leave in a week or so. Donna - who lives here full time across the street and a little to the west of us, received a call Wednesday that her son passed away. This is the last of her three children who have all passed. She is having a bit of a rough time.
It remains dry here - we have had only dew or fog for moisture since the first of January. The drought in the Rio Grande Valley is really a problem. Several towns are rationing drinking water and most of the canal irrigation water from the Rio Grande River will be shut off around the first of May by latest reports. Of course the wind blows constantly -- current report shows 13 mph out of the southwest.
Till next time, Lynn

Everybodys leaving!
La Feria, TX 70º at 9:30 am.
Real success at the supper last night. 80 people in the park showed up and successfully removed the Turkey-Veggie soup, ice cream and some assorted small dishes people brought.
30 hamburgers were grilled and cut in half to stretch them. At right Carl & Dave man the grill.
Peggy & Phyllis slapped buns on the
hamburgers and halved them.
Harold Williams, Darlene Winslow, Carl Pringle and Phyllis Miles, getting the line ready for serving.
Harold, Peggy, and Dave working on finishing up the ice cream.
Couple days ago I had a local washing crew go over the travel trailer. It had collected a lot of dust and grime just sitting the last 5 months.
Yesterday I pulled the travel trailer over to the vacated lot right beside us.
By pulling in it left the doors to the trailer right across from our steps at our mobile home. Will take the next several days to transfer "stuff" to the travel trailer and we will probably pull out sometime next week. Phyllis is still getting daily treatments from the chiropractor for her back problems following the ankle injury so will see how long that is needed. We don't have any deadline for our summer traveling other than the Wichita, KS wedding April 26th so are really flexible on our leaving.

Winding down at Kenwood
La Feria, TX 57 degrees - predicted high today 70 degrees
Been a while since I posted.
There are a lot of empty spots at the park as many of the "over-winter" people have left. There are some new ones -- especially these Class A's from Canada.
We stopped over at King Aloe to get supply of liquid aloe vera for the summer months. Several of their fields were in bloom.
Last week we had our bug man do his inspection and spraying at the house. It had been some time since a defensive spraying for termites had been done, so I opened 4 places in the skirting and he pumped a pretty potent smelling mixture thoroughly under the trailer. With a warranted agreement he will do a check int he spring and then another spray next fall.
One evening last week Bob & Bobbi Raab hosted a "going away" supper at their place for Doris & Lyle Winter. They are moving their unit to a park in San Juan to the west of us about 20 miles.
Yesterday morning Winter's trailer was pulled from the park and it took a full crew of watchers to help. Bobbie even served rolls!
One day I painted the metal frame of the back door steps.
I got a hose-return box and anchored it with some steel posts planted in front of it. We have a friend who will pull out the hose and water the plants occasionally this summer. This will make it easier for her.
I put some flag stones around the small cactus plants that I planted this winter. They are mostly to keep the grass-cutting crew from damaging the cacti with their weed whips
Dueling cameras - Dave & Ron snapping pictures of each other snapping pictures at meet & greet.
At our last "meet & greet" session of the season.
Saw this guy tooling around Harlingen when we were going down to the chiropractor's office the other day.
.Another pic at meet & greet. Donna & Wesley are across table from us.
.
Jenny, from the office, on her last day with Kenwood. She has found a better job and left us. She will be missed.
In back is Donna, Lorraine, Dortha and Phyllis with Jenny in the center.
Neighbor Ardell left his tomato plant with us when he headed home. Have gotten several little tomatoes off it.
Beautiful tree seen over in Pharr, TX.
This unusual tree is in park that Winter's are moving to. Different than we have seen.
Will be seeing chiropractor for Phyllis this afternoon, will be getting our travel trailer washed and moved to lot next to us so we can begin transferring stuff to it so can leave sometime next week. Things are winding down here at Kenwood. Phyllis' birthday is Thursday so we will probably eat out that day.

Lot of "lasts"
La Feria, TX 75 degrees at 11:30 am, overcast.
A lot of "lasts" this week. Last time to bingo and pizza at Gatti's Pizza, last pegs & jokers game and supper with Harold & LaRohda, Butch & Dorothy, Bob & Bobbi and Lyle & Doris. Lyle & Doris are moving their mobile unit to a park about 20 miles west of here Monday, so won't see quite so much of them next year. All of the people mentioned above are leaving some time this next week. Bid goodbye to Kevin & Joyce this morning as they head back to Canada. Sunday was last church service with Pastor Baker, though we will have one service this Sunday with Pastor Harold from New York State filling in and then no more church services in the park until December 8th. Tonight will be last bean bag baseball (if enough people show up to make a couple teams).
We won't be leaving until sometime after April 1st when we start our trek west and north.
Here is the bedroom set (King Size Bed and small chest of drawers to the left) that we got from Phyllis' Aunt Eva when we helped clean out her apartment last Saturday and moved some stuff to her Nursing Home.
Here is the big chest of drawers and the tall bookcase.
This has been almost daily position Phyllis is in when Chiropractor in Harlingen works on her, trying to get her back and hips aligned.
I am trying to get new shelf for microwave finished up and then organize the storage shed so can store all the scrap lumber in it that I have accumulated to use in building the room under the new carport, which now won't happen until this fall.
More later, Lynn
