Cool time near Pacific Ocean

These first two photos were taken near where we stayed at Fort Klamath, OR.  Was told that this area just south of Crater Lake is all irrigated, is all grass and had an enormous amount of cattle that were grown there and then shipped to California to be shipped out.  Even saw a couple fields of sheep.

Has been in the 60's during the daytime with winds in the 20 mph range and gusts to upper 30's here on the coast at Florence, Oregon.  Rather cool.

Photos below, taken on our trip from Crater Lake to here, show mile after mile of trees, not trimmed, lying along side road.  We presumed they were brought out from the woods and would later be trimmed and cut and hauled.

Several trucks with logs on them passed us.
Went by at least one yard of sorted logs.
This covered bridge, not used now, used to cover the Siuslaw River here.

July 4th, in the morning, we drove north to Sea Lion Cave.  These two photos are of an outside area where they sun, breed, and birth.  There were several large bulls in the group that were constantly bullying any other male who came close.  They were huge.

After paying our entry fee we walked some distance down to an elevator to the cave itself.  This statue was on the way.  Wind of about 35 mph was blowing -- I was trying to keep my hood out of my face in this picture.

The cave itself, created by holes in an ancient lava flow, is considered the larges sea cave and these sea lions occupy it year around.  Was hard to get photos with only light being from distant opening of the cave.

.Was quite noisy with the wave action near the opening and several bickering sea lions wanting the same space to lie down

Yesterday, after spending time in Old Town Florence, we drove south and happened on a huge sand dune that locals use for 4-wheelers of all sizes to tear up and down, and across as fast as they could.  Some people have the darnedest ways to amuse themselves.

This was a group on a sand dune tour that came over the hill and down to the group.  There were probably 50 to 60 4-wheelers zipping around.

On the 4th there was a BBQ and sharing of dishes.  The park furnished all the barbequed meat.  Was a good meal and got to meet several people.  The couple we ate with live in Pharr, TX and originally came from northeast Iowa.

Yesterday we ate in Old Town Florence and I had a great oyster burger and Phyllis had salmon with huge oniion rings.
We are going to head north, past the Sea Lion Cave, this morning and spend some time on beaches.  Were told you could pick up geodes that wash up on the beach.  Will see.  Will be in this park until Sunday and then drive up to a park north-east of Salem where we will spend at least 3 nights.
