More on Labor Day Weekend trip

At the cabin near Free Soil, MI - we had some really good cookin'

Sweet corn, grown at a near-by fruit-vegetable market, was as good as any Iowa corn we have eaten this year.

One night we drove about 25 miles to the west to catch the sunset over Lake Michigan.  If we had been there about 8-10 minutes quicker we would have seen the sun itself -- but here is the sun-lit clouds.

While in Ludington on Friday evening we saw the ferry that works between Ludington, MI and Manitowoc, WI.  We had taken our car from Manitowoc to Ludington in 1975 on this ferry.

We walked the park along Lake Michigan at Ludington.  Saw several statues and artwork.     This at right and below show the 10 foot wheel that was developed to pull logs from the forests.

Commemorating a baseball player on a city team of the 1920's.

We walked part way out on a Breakwater (Click HERE) at Ludington's Stearn Park.

On Monday Phyllis and I drove over to Ludington and discovered this cabin cruiser that had tried to cross the break-water.  TV said fog had suddenly enveloped the boat and as they started to power up their radar they (7 people) found themselves on the break-water.

Sign of the area.

Tuesday morning we pulled our trailer over to West Branch, MI at Bill & Darlene Winslow's place.  In photo at right we are in dining room that looks out on to their 12 acre pond.
Bill relaxing in his recliner and Darlene in her chair.
Photo at right looks out window at the front of the house to their barn and driveway to the nearby highway.

This bird was standing on the dock on the pond - took the photo out the window of their dining room.

There were a couple of thin, but heavy, logs that had floated up.  I drug them out and Bill hauled them off with a rope to the burner pile by his garden.

Bill still has a pretty good sized garden and picked fresh sweet corn for us.
Some of the rest of the garden.  Something had hit the tomatoes and they were turning bad.  We did eat several hundred cherry tomatoes off a bush that is planted right by the garage door.

Bill had some Ivy growing around the base of a large tree so he didn't have to mow right up to the tree.  He cut several cuttings and put in water that we brought home so can do that around some of our trees.

Been at this blogging thing until my back is hurting.  More tomorrow on our trip.
