Heard what thought was thunder last night about 5:35 pm and found out later it was an explosion in a trailer about 150 feet from us. Guess the guy was lighting the furnace or a stove (had not been in the trailer for many days) and it exploded on him. He had turned off the propane outside after failing to get it lit and then was going to wait a while, but didn't wait long enough. When I read a not from Cathy on Facebook about it we went looking (was really dark now) and the guy and his brother and sister were trying to cover the front of the trailer with a big sheet of plastic. We helped and furnished some straps that I had, as well as a shaky step ladder, for them to do some taping of the plastic. Phyllis had me run home and get some Aloe we had when she found he had not done anything about his face and hands. He rubbed it on best he could, but by the time we were finished, he said his hands were starting to blister up and break, so they were going to go down to the emergency room at the hospital. It was not raining at the time, but started to rain about 7:30 am this morning. With the slide-out bulged out and rear window broken as well as a crease broken through in the body of the trailer, imagine insurance will total it. He said it was only 6 months old and he had only used it a couple nights. He is employed where he does some travel and only stays in this area occasionally. Could have been worse.
Yesterday noon we had a Pot Luck Lunch at the Rec Hall with residents who live, or lived, in Iowa. Think there were nearly 30 there.
