La Feria, TX 97º showing on my outdoor thermometer. Sunshine is intense.
Went for a short ride - 11 miles - before it got too warm this morning. Saw some cotton growing.
These were taken with telephoto.
We saw these ducks and ibis' also.
After we got back from the ride we ate a late breakfast of scrambled eggs with pieces of steak left over from the grill last evening.
We cleaned the deck furniture and have put it in the spare bedroom; loaded most of the boxes in the little trailer ready to leave Tuesday. We are going to Las Vegas restaurant this evening with Jim & Lavin Boozer and Bill and Twila Oberholzer and will probably play some pegs and jokers afterwards.

Not last week in Kenwood
La Feria, TX 86º
Well, it is Wednesday and we are going to be here until at least next Monday as I need to get some more work done on teeth.
We had a real hard rain here yesterday, at least an inch and much of it came really hard. This area has been really dry, but this was only a small area as we were in Progreso and did not have any rain on us until we got back to La Feria, itself; not even any rain in Mercedes next door.
Here is a photo I took of a One Million Dollar Bill under the glass counter in the American Pharmacy in Progreso, Mexico. Of course, the US only prints paper currency up to $100. Would sure look good in my billfold, if I could have gotten it.
We stopped at the Rec Hall Tuesday in time to catch the last part of the last performance of the season of the Blue Grass Jam.
Was a small crowd and small number of performers as many have gone north. Earlier we had picked up a bag of Texas 1015 Onions and also stopped at Granny Clare's Citrus to get some grapefruit to take to friends up north.
Sunday evening we had helped serve the last of the ice cream at the Rec Hall and then played Pegs & Jokers with friends from Illinois and Michigan.
I don't remember who won how many games, but we had an enjoyable evening.
Today is Phyllis' 68'th birthday anniversary. To celebrate it she was suffering from some stomach flu. She has laid around the house and I have not done much more; made a little more of a block to the hole near our air conditioner where animals have been entering. Have started cleaning out my storage shed and putting things in the little trailer so we can start for Iowa next week.
With RV's moving out every day and not too many left, it is looking pretty empty at the park.

Last week in Rio Grande Valley
La Feria, TX 72º Starting our last week here as we intend to move towards Iowa starting Friday. We plan to go to Corpus Christi on Friday and see the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier. Saturday will venture on to Phyllis' cousin near Elkhart, TX and see them and their kids on the weekend and then head north through edge of Arkansas and western Missouri towards Southwest Iowa.
We rode about 16 miles on the recumbent trikes Saturday.
Rode through some subdivisions of La Feria and also out in the country where we saw lots of fields of corn about 6 inches tall, much of it in double rows.
Saw lots of Aloe Vera fields only a little ways southeast of town. Hadn't known they were there.
We also rode around the outskirts of the big Kingdom Hall that had lots of cars at it, being a Saturday and they have lots of conventions on the weekend we had been told. Lots of people in suits and "Sunday" dresses.
When we got back to Kenwood RV Park some neighbors notified us they were having a cookout at about 3:00 pm at their motor home. So, we went to the house, rested a bit and Phyllis fixed a macaroni salad and we went over to their place. James and Barbara Patton, from Tennessee, had the grill going and fixed some baby back ribs, beef ribs, hamburgers, pineapple, hotdogs, sausage. Many people brought salads, and deserts, etc. and lots of visiting went on.
Was sunny, but breeze made the temperature comfortable if we could keep the gnats & mosquitoes down.
We accused James and Barbara of having a "funeral tent" for shade.
Afterward Cathy and Ken put together a portable bean bag baseball game they had purchased and we played a game in the hot sun.
Today, Sunday, we sang in the church choir, listened to Reverend Baker's last sermon of the season, and then several of us went out to Luby's for lunch.
Saturday evening we had Twila and Bill Hoberholzer (From Iowa) to our place and we played Hand and Foot cards.
And Friday evening we had pulled pork sandwiches and salads at Bob & Bobbi Raab's (From Minnesota) place on their outside area, then played Pegs & Jokers in the house..
Friday we had driven to shoe store in McAllen and then down to Pharr where we had lunch with Eva Hill, Phyllis' 86 year old aunt.
Tonight we went to the last Ice Cream at the Rec Hall (where we got rid of all the last ice cream) and then played Pegs & Jokers at Darlene & Bill Wenslow's (from Michigan) place.

La Feria, TX 90º bright sunshine.
Just returned from the west where we went to McAllen this morning and got some new insoles for our Z-Coil shoes and Phyllis got a new pair of sneakers. Then we went down to Pharr and ate lunch with her Aunt Eva. She is doing well, for 86, going on 87 in September. She doesn't get out of the "independent living" place where she lives. Mary helps her daily getting up and dressed and down to the dining area on the first floor and any other needs she has. We told her we would visit her this November when we return to the Valley.
We stopped at a new Costco in McAllen and got gasoline for $3.489 instead of the $3.659 at the Velcro station ----I mean Velero -- down the street from there. It is $3.699 at all the stations here in La Feria and Harlingen.
Here are a couple photos from Progreso, MX the other day:
Last evening 24 people gathered to share food and some fish that Jim & Lavin had brought from Illinois.
Tonight we are heading to another neighbor where 12 will gather to eat Pulled Pork. Many of those who live in the "permanents" -- Mobile homes, park models, fifth-wheels or travel trailers tied down and skirted -- are leaving this week or will leave next week. Everyone is saying goodbye; and, getting their refrigerators emptied.

Progreso, MX
Waiting on US side at the restrooms before going over the bridge. |
Not much car traffic, but walkways filled with foot traffic. |
Looking south |
Looking north |
Large strawberries on ice. |
I found some music makers! |
Buying some pictures. |
Couple of guys rode motorcycles in this round cage at the same time, nobody hit anybody. |
Thought Phyllis might want shoes like these.....NO! |
Stopped at Elsa's Bakery for some coffee and rolls as well as music from the roving Mariachi Band. Lots of stores were pinning "mementos" on shirts of passers-by and giving some stuff away. We have couple of straw hats now.
We walked by the 3 stages where they had the "music" so loud it would rattle your head
On returning to the US side we stopped at Fat Daddy's for lunch but there was a really long waiting line so we went on up to China World in Weslaco and ate at their buffet.
Phyllis is organizing for us to pack up and head home. I am going to bring our small trailer over and start getting it ready to fill so we can leave in about a week.
Till later, Lynn
