Last week in Rio Grande Valley

La Feria, TX  72º  Starting our last week here as we intend to move towards Iowa starting Friday.  We plan to go to Corpus Christi on Friday and see the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier.  Saturday will venture on to Phyllis' cousin near Elkhart, TX and see them and their kids on the weekend and then head north through edge of Arkansas and western Missouri towards Southwest Iowa.

Phyllis getting helmet, reflective vest, and cleat shoes on to go triking.

South on Kansas City Road we went by onions just picked in a field.

Aloe Vera plants blossoming on field by Kansas City Road.
We rode about 16 miles on the recumbent trikes Saturday.

Rode through some subdivisions of La Feria and also out in the country where we saw lots of fields of corn about 6 inches tall, much of it in double rows.

Saw lots of Aloe Vera fields only a little ways southeast of town.  Hadn't known they were there.

We also rode around the outskirts of the big Kingdom Hall that had lots of cars at it, being a Saturday and they have lots of conventions on the weekend we had been told.  Lots of people in suits and "Sunday" dresses.

When we got back to Kenwood RV Park some neighbors notified us they were having a cookout at about 3:00 pm at their motor home.  So, we went to the house, rested a bit and Phyllis fixed a macaroni salad and we went over to their place.  James and Barbara Patton, from Tennessee, had the grill going and fixed some baby back ribs, beef ribs, hamburgers, pineapple, hotdogs, sausage.  Many people brought salads, and deserts, etc. and lots of visiting went on.

James manning the barbeque unit.

Dan helping Robert get a hamburger.

Lots of food.

Didn't have any gnats right in this area!

Was sunny, but breeze made the temperature comfortable if we could keep the gnats & mosquitoes down.

We accused James and Barbara of having a "funeral tent" for shade.

Afterward Cathy and Ken put together a portable bean bag baseball game they had purchased and we played a game in the hot sun.

Rev. Baker

Today, Sunday, we sang in the church choir, listened to Reverend Baker's last sermon of the season, and then several of us went out to Luby's for lunch.

And Friday evening we had pulled pork sandwiches and salads at Bob & Bobbi Raab's (From Minnesota) place on their outside area, then played Pegs & Jokers in the house..

Friday we had driven to shoe store in McAllen and then down to Pharr where we had lunch with Eva Hill, Phyllis' 86 year old aunt.

Tonight we went to the last Ice Cream at the Rec Hall (where we got rid of all the last ice cream) and then played Pegs & Jokers at Darlene & Bill Wenslow's (from Michigan) place.
