Rick & Paulette's post on the history/meaning behind the St. Patrick's Day. Don't know where he got the info or if he made it up, but is seems factual and is interesting. Click the their name to the left or their blog to the right to read it.
Since we have been without a car (it is in the paint shop) since last Tuesday afternoon, we rode the trikes some 16 miles yesterday. Went the 4.5 miles south on 506 to where the car is, and thought it might be finished. Found out they were without electricity for a day and a half and were just getting back to work with their compressors, etc. so it would be an extra day. Going into the 25 mph winds south to his place was a task, but easier when going back north. We only went a mile north of his place and then went east a couple miles to Bass Road and then north. Stopped at Emerald Grove to visit with Oliver & Mary Jo a bit. He was just finishing waxing the trailer after having the roof re-covered with rubber. Is leaving it here for the summer so these things will help it stand the hot sun some. Just before we got to their place noted some interesting plants/bushes along Bass Road:
Pin Cushion Cactus "tree" |
Not sure what kind of tree, but it is sure gnarled. |
Spring is definitely here (Probably up in the Midwest, too) and spotted several fields of emerged plants when coming back along the north side of Expressway 83.
Double rows, planted on the hills of furrowed field. |
By Business 83 and Bass Road there is an interesting insurance sign advertising for storm coverage:
The "tree" and the sign are made to look like they are wind damaged. |
Rode a little over 8.5 miles this morning -- still strong south winds -- and got a call that the car was ready so am getting a ride with neighbor to go get it and do some errands.
Till later, Lynn
