One of my High School Classmates found me!

La Feria, TX - 61º -

Someone I hadn't seen since High School Graduation in Callaway, Nebraska in May of 1961 came by our place here in La Feria the other day.

Lyle Erstrom was in my high school class of some 30 kids.  Though we were not close, we shared the same classes for high school; me - 4 years and Lyle the last 3 years.

Lyle and his wife Pat live near Somerville, Texas and had found me through his younger sister
Judy as I had "friended" her on Facebook within the last year or so.  We caught up on what we had been doing the last 54 years and had a nice visit.

This last week has found me working with Pat Sumner on a set of steps and landing for Harold and LaRhoada Neher, my neighbor to the east.

Also got started on putting windows in new wall on the west side of our awning.

Pat set up to cut the 24' pieces of iron for the steps and landing at the Welding Supply place -- they needed cut and we couldn't fit them in to my Ford Excursion quite that long.

Picked up Patty at the Harlingen Airport on Thursday and we have been catching up on things Page County.

Whoa! January is disappearing

La Feria, TX 51º with bright sunshine.  Was 39º earlier this morning and to be 65º later.
Tomorrow will be 65th Anniversary of little sister Louise's birthday.  Hard to believe she had been gone 6.5 years now.

Has been some time since I have posted.  At right are some photos of playing Bingo when down in Harlingen at Gatti's Pizza couple Mondays ago.   At right - Bill Winslow from Michigan, Dorothy Geisking from Iowa, Lawrence Ferguson from Nebraska, Denny Arment from Iowa, and Charlie Serven from Illinois.
At right - Lawrence Ferguson from Nebraska, Denny Arment from Iowa,  Charlie Serven from Illinois, Marion and Ardel Finken from Indianala, Sharon and Earl Taylor from Minnesota, Doug and Betty Salzwedel from Minnesota, Harold and Imogene Williams from Indianna, Virgil and Lavonne Green from Minnesota and Butch Geisking from Iowa.
Phyllis at left of photo working the Bingo game.  Don Ferguson from Nebraska is calling the numbers.

These two photos show couple of units not often seen.  Two couples traveling together said they were scouting out the area and if found good place to come back to next year would bring their "bigger units".

At one of the Tuesday lunches before the Bluegrass Jam Session Cindy (at left) in housekeeping and  Rosie from the office ate with us.
At same lunch - Roy (on phone) our full-time maintenance man at the lunch.

I set up Carl & Marti's steps (Since they weren't coming down this year) at Arnold and Kathy Waxman's trailer - had to add one step made from scrap lumber.   -- Within a week Carl & Marti showed up with their trailer so moved this over to their trailer and I and Pat Sumner are building new set of steps for the Waxmans.

This may be the last photo of our 2009 Four Winds travel trailer.  Have sold it and it is to be moved this next week.

Have had quite a few weeks of cold and rainy weather, but week ago Friday was a sunny, albeit cool day and many gathered by the "vegetable man"s trailer.

Last Saturday's show at the hall was put on by a lady and her four "kids" - aged 13 to 24 - and did lot of singing, yodeling, clogging, etc.

Last Sunday we went with about 20 other people from the park over to South Padre Island for lunch at a Sports Bar, honoring 3 or 4 people's birthdays.

Last Monday evening we were guests of Arnold and Kathy Waxman at Milano’s Ristorante Italiano in Weslaco.   Their web site CLICK HERE

Kathy and Arnold Waxman live in Overland Park, Kansas when not in Kenwood.  Every room in this restaurant (Which started out as a home in the 1930's) had different theme with murals on walls and photos, statues, etc.  Very quiet, elegant and not very busy the evening we were there.

Photo of some of the cactus (cacti?) in the back yard.  These weren't any bigger than my hand when I planted them.

Taking advantage of the sun on a Tuesday morning at the Shuffle Board Court.  We haven't made it down to play, but many enjoy.

Finally got started working on doing some more work on our "Texas Room".  To put up studs along next to the mobile home and then tie across ceiling to outside wall which will have many screened windows it it.

At last Pot-Luck Supper -- Carl and Marti (facing camera) had just arrived that afternoon from near St. Louis, MO
Waiting for the Pot-Luck to start - Helen and Lee Miles from Illinois
LaRhoada and Harold Neher from Kansas

Linda and Orville Crane from Wisconsin

Hungry senior citizens lining up for food!

Line of folks ahead of us.

Doing some final welding

Pat grinding down the welds.

Wooden steps drying paint.

Shorter frame drying and one of the steps.

Will probably assemble them this weekend and get over to Waxman's.  Our good friend from Shenandoah, Iowa - Patty Steckelberg, will be getting here this Thursday and will be with us through February.  Looking forward to her visit.

Sun again!

La Feria, TX - 50º and sunshine!  Had 1.5" of rain over 3-day period with no sun, heavy clouds and temps from 38 to mid 50's.
Water was standing - this is out our back door.

Toward neighbor's yard.

No standing water today, it soaked down.  Of course, water table here is very high, with our elevation only 68 feet above seal level and it is pretty sandy/rocky.

Last Thursday our Meet & Greet a 4 pm was combined with Bean Bag Baseball - trying to get interest from people who don't ordinarily come to Bean Bag Baseball.  At right photo shows those in park with December birthdays being recognized.

Hot Dogs with chili and lots of other snacky dishes were served.  At left are Bob & Bobbie Raab from Minneapolis, MN

At right are Don and Linda (I think) from Topeka, Kansas

Sunday just before church at the Rec Hall.  Rev Baker, at the left, is carrying his Cue Cards for his sermon.  Thought he was going to give a test afterwards.

Lady from Canada played the organ along with Lavin at the piano for some of the church songs.

After church some 16 people went to Cracker Barrel to eat.  Waited about 45 minutes to get group that size seated.  Ended up with tables of 10, 4, and 2 close together.

Today, Monday, is bingo and eating at Gatti's Pizza in Harlingen and I go with Bill Winslow this afternoon to the Harlingen Airport to pick up his wife Darlene, who is returning from Michigan where she attended her sister's funeral.

More later.
