Warm and windy in RG Valley

89 degrees with a "feels like" of 99 degrees due to 67% humidity and really windy this Wednesday afternoon.

These two views are of a combine in corn field right across from our house in Clarinda, IA.  I took the photos while standing in our living room.on day before we left Iowa.  Just read today on Facebook that Jan & Lynn Freye in Lincoln, NE just finished their harvest.  Kind of early.

Our trailer parked on Paul's lot.
We pulled the trailer to repair shop in Pharr to look at the undercarriage and fix the lean to the left of the trailer.

Our neighbor Bob & Bobi Raab's front yard.  Vegetation looks good.

Looking from our street towards swimming pool.  Shows 4 of the 5 new park models being set in for rent by the Park.

Raab's lemon tree in their back yard.

The rental units with the swimming pool on the side.  In this photo one had full length car awning up.  There are now two up.  With high winds today they aren't working on the third one.

Panorama of  our house on the left, Neher's, Raab's and Boozer's far right.

These photos are pulled off my Web Album on Picaso - Click here to view all the photos.

Last night Gordy & Beverly Mayor came over for some Pegs & Jokers.  Here he works his hand crank shuffler.

He fixed up an old shoe-shine box to carry it in.

Today we drove over to DonWes to get a few things.  Not a lot of vendors set up.  Guess I didn't take any photos on the north side of the street.  We went to get some tomatoes on the south side and here are a couple shots of the vegetable area.  Imagine it will be full in a couple weeks.  We are still in October now.

We went on a ways south and west from DonWes to the big hamburger place.  This shows one-half of our hamburger with the order of onion rings.  Too much to eat, we brought part of the onion rings home.

At right is view at the hamburger place.  We walked right up to counter to order and waited about 20 minutes.  In late November it will take 2.5 hours to order and get your food with the big crowd of Winter Texans.

Oh yes, we found out a few days ago we will be great-grandparents come next July.  Not that we are getting old, or anything.
Take care, till later, Lynn

First week in Kenwood - fall of 2013

This is for you, Patty Steckelberg ---------
Karen Baumgartner had put it on Facebook and knew you wouldn't see it there.  It is at Jerry Junk's dance Wednesday.

We played Hand & Foot at Jack & Karen's place.  At left are Karen and Jim & Char

At left are Phyllis and Jack & Karen

Today we rode with Jack & Karen over to Arroyo City, Texas to church.  Jim & Char Bernathy went also.  Photos at right are when we ate at Jason's Deli in Harlingen on the way home.

Is 87 degrees here in La Feria, TX as I write this.  To be on the warm side for several days with no forecast rain.  The area is green (more so than we have seen for some time) from the rains they had in the late summer.

Getting settled in at Kenwood

Arrived at our Mobile Home on Lot 312 in Kenwood RV in La Feria, TX a little after 6 pm on Monday.  Since they had not  put any unit in Lot 314 we parked our travel trailer there and unloaded some stuff that night but dark got us.  Worked the next day, and after some 4 hours of transferring stuff from the unit we had lived in pretty much for 6 months this spring and summer.

On Sunday morning, when our trailer was still in the back yard at Russ & Krista Heuer's yard, we enjoyed the usual huge Sunday morning breakfast that Russ likes to fix.  Bacon, eggs, fresh cut hash brown potatoes, bacon, etc.  Delicious and we ate too much, but it was a good full hurt.

Girl at far right is friend of Shy's that had stayed overnight after the pumpkin carving/wiener roast party on Saturday night.  Think there were some other girls who stayed over also, but they didn't stay for breakfast.

We played a game of Mexican Hat Dominoes and all enjoyed.

Clay got to goofing off with some plastic mouth pieces.

Doug the dog kept watch on things.

We drove all day Monday and south of Victoria, Texas ran in and out of rain many times.  Sometimes it rained very hard, but didn't last long each time.

Lots of scary clouds and there were weather warnings on the radio, but we didn't experience anything more than moderate winds.

This palm tree, growing right beside our tool shed and at the edge of the new aluminum awning I put up just before we left in the spring, really grew during the summer.

Note the trimmed palm tree by the shed now.
Will start working on removing the tool shed and getting cement floor poured to make big area for work shop and storage area.

Where we parked the trailer while unloading.  This put the door side towards our mobile home.  Later after dumping tanks, turned it around and parked it on the dirt between our place and the cement where it is sitting in this picture.

Had to get Dish Tech in to help hook up the black box we had brought from Clarinda.  Guess couldn't remember who it had been hooked up.  This morning I cut weeds on the outside of our back fence.  Will start to take down part of the deck and then store stuff from the tool shed there so will have room to pour cement when get the tool shed moved.

On our way to Texas for the winter

In Elkhart, TX.  Click the "
Finally have WiFi so can upload photos.  My Verizon account seems to eat up the data fast so haven't written on here for a while.
Going south near St. Joseph, MO saw trees just starting to turn colors.

We stayed just north of Missouri/Arkansas line at a Passport America RV Park and Phyllis' cousin Don Runyan and his wife Bessie drove the 15 miles or so from Gravett, AR and we went out to eat.  This is Bessie with Phyllis.

And here is Lynn with Don

Though the gas price has come down quite a bit in last few weeks, the diesel just can't seem to follow it.

This was somewhere in Arkansas

We stayed 2 nights in back yard at Everett & Bonnie Uphoff in Heber Springs, AR.

Ate at their Wednesday night church supper.
Phyllis & Bonnie

Everett and Lynn

Stopped in Batesville, Arkansas at a huge fabric store where Bonnie & Phyllis bought quite a lot of fabric which we are taking down to Kenwood RV for their Sew & Share program.

After the fabric shop we went to the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas and they had a lot of buildings with craftsmen working in each place.

Think this was the leather shop.  There were probably more than a dozen shops working.  I am only showing a few here.  Many more pictures on my Picasa Album.

This gal was coloring copper by heat.  She was working with butterflies at the time.  Amazing how she could get different colors out by holding the torch close or further away; dipping the copper in cold water at the right time, etc.

This lady was making items by melting glass.

After we got back to Uphoff's the ladies sorted out the fabric and we loaded it in our truck.  One piece not shown here was a large roll of batting (30" across by 7 feet long).

Next morning, just after we had breakfast rolls with Bonnie & Everett, their daughter came by and we had a nice visit with her.
We had visited their other daughter who lives in town the evening before, but I guess I didn't get my camera out.  Hard to imagine.

On Friday we left Heber Springs and drove to Little Rock, AR where we spent several hours at the Clinton Presidential Library

Very interesting library with timeline of the 8 years he was in office as well as many exhibits of accomplishments.  At right is the desk in the Oval Office that he used.  It had been made from wood from a shipwreck, one of only 3 made that way.

We stayed one night in a Passport America RV Park near Texarkana, TX on Friday night and then headed southwest.  Arrived at Russ & Krista Heuer's a little after 3 pm.  At left is Clay Heuer and Haley Heuer.

They had been working at cleaning up an area and had a lot of wood to burn.  They invited a lot of friends in for Saturday afternoon weenie-roast and pumpkin carving.  They had a good turnout.

Russ helping his boy Clay with his pumpkin

Haley keeping warm their new dog Doug.

The winner of the pumpkin carving contest.

Lots of fun was had.  Nice day, though the cool north wind bothered until near dark.

    Roasting weenies.

Russ, entertaining everyone by driving in huge circles around their place with their big 4-wheeler.

After dark the warm fire was welcome.

This morning Russ and Krista fixed a big breakfast.  Today the sun is out and another nice day.  After a game of Mexican Dominoes, Shy is off to softball practice and the rest are off to shopping while I am catching up on the blog in our trailer sitting in their back yard.

Will head south on Monday morning.

I have put up all our photos on this trip from Clarinda to La Feria on my Picasa Albums  Click Here
to see them.
More later, Lynn
