Last week or so have been working some around yard.  Trimmed down bushes getting a little too tall on the west side of our house.
First weekend after we returned from bus trip we hosted Phyllis' cousin Stan Kuelman and his wife Jo.  Stan grew up in the house in the country we moved from a couple years ago after living there 38 years.  They were attending a Clarinda High School Class Reunion of class of 1952 for the weekend.

I have started to remove and raise the single row of bricks that we laid 3 years ago by the curved driveway that goes from main driveway the shop.  They had sunk from the driving over when backing in the travel trailer and decided while raising them up would add an additional row to make driveway a little wider.
Saw these quilt patterns on a garage here in Clarinda one day when we were riding the recumbent trikes.
Gave the back deck it's yearly coating of water sealant.  Had removed each of the boards last summer and turned them over, giving 3 coats to the new top and 2 the the new bottom.  The weather this last year took something out of them, though and they sure soaked up the new coat.
Last Wednesday, at our first of the season Square Dance, had guests of 4 student nurses from Japan who were touring the area.  They got a kick out of the square dance, and caller Mike Hogan - from Omaha - got them and their chaperones up for a basic lesson in square dancing.
Have been able to go to our regular "Thursday Night Supper" bunch at J's Pizza lately.  At left is Jim Book, Janice & Bill Francis, Jackie Hendricks, and Millie Jensen
At left is Roberta Rarick, Harold Book and Jim Book.
Phyllis worked several days last week at the "Flea Market" in the basement of the First United Methodist Church.  Looked like a lot of junk to me, but guess they took many hundreds of dollars.  This is photo of the boxes of the stuff that didn't sell and was being donated to several places.
Last week I spread dry fertilizer on the lawn, and spread grass seed on the areas browned out.  Then covered all of it with a solution of liquid lawn fertilizer, soap, and ammonia.  Will have to make another application over the browned area to help get the thatch to break up.  It is a Jerry Baker recipe including beer, Coca Cola, soap, ammonia, and apple juice.

Left shows some of the many crabgrass plants I have pulled.

Yesterday had to take Phyllis' vacuum cleaner apart when it quit running.  Finally found a "one-time" fuse in-line that had burned out.  I hot-wired around it.  Hope it runs for a little while.

If there is a next time, till then, Lynn
