Albuquerque for a week

Click on "weather where we are" above, or click on any photo to enlarge.

We got to Albuquerque on Friday and have bought a week and are relaxing and seeing the sights.
My Picasa photos of Albuquerque
Click on that link if you want to see some of the places we have been so far.

Yesterday we went to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and spent several hours -- watched some Indian dancing and looked at the display of the 19 different Pueblos.  Got a map of some of the places that are open for tour (were told that some of these are still lived in) and will try to see some of them.

We then spent time in Old Town.

The photo at right had to be Photoshopped from two photos as Phyllis took my picture and I took hers.

I never thought of New Mexico as being in the mountains.  Here at our RV Park about 3 miles west of Albuquerque we are at an elevation of 5,900 feet.  When we drove downtown to look around yesterday we were just under 5,000 feet.  That is especially notable to me since our place at Clarinda, IA is at 1,200 feet above sea level and we use up most of that distance just going into Albuquerque.  Of course that was to Old Town.  Where Dennis Geer lives it is back to 6,100 feet.  We will scope out his place today.  They are in Clarinda now and will fly back in to Albuquerque Tuesday night and we will visit them Wednesday and Thursday

.On Saturday we had spent most of the morning around our trailer and then gone downtown to a flea market. Several booths were selling clothing
and had these kind of mannequins.  Phyllis wanted me to stop patting some of them as we passed.

When we left and headed back towards home we stopped at Dion's Pizza.  Had a very inexpensive meal in that when Phyllis went up to the counter to pick up our 14" Special, the server said he was really disappointed with the looks of the pie.  It was stretched out to nearly 16" and was not round.  He insisted that they make another for us to take with us.  We were only able to eat one-half of the one we had, which tasted fine but had a bit of spice to it that made it a little hot, so we are actually getting 4 meals out of it.  Phyllis froze some of it and we are working off the rest out of the refrigerator.

We finally got a real GPS at Camping World which is only a quarter mile from us.  Have been getting used to it.  Some of the features surprised me.  For instance, it shows the speed limit of the area you are driving in and barks out a warning if you get over the speed limit.  Might save its price in avoiding speeding tickets, especially in some of the town areas where it changes on you.  It also gives elevation, time of day, and your speed (as well as sunrise and sunset - which though interesting hasn't been something I needed, maybe if you were hunting).

We are heading out to Sam's, Costco and some looking around in the housing areas of this pretty good sized city.  Of course, the road we take from our RV Park to downtown is the original Route 66.

Oh, Phyllis wanted me to take these two photos to show Iowa people how flowers look that haven't been snowed on.

 More later, Lynn
