Spent time yesterday and today with Dennis and Bonnie Geer (Dennis was classmate of Phyllis' in Clarinda High School back in Iowa - class of '62).
Thanks to Charlie Keeran for giving us a heads up on going up Sandia Peak. Here we are coming to the top of 2.7 mile long cable ride.
Tramway up Sandia Peak
We walked a short way on one trail at the top of this 10,378 peak. Wind was blowing hard and it was about 44 degrees. There are something like 5 ski lifts on the east side of the slope.
This is a CCC built rock cabin built at the top back in the '30's. It was a 1.5 mile walk back to it along the crest, which we didn't do.
At the time this mufti-million dollar tramway was built it was the longest in the world. It has only two towers in between the bottom and the top - the longest, is still the third longest span in the world. Each of the 3 cables weigh 52 tons.
We enjoyed a nice lunch at the top in The High Finance Restaurant We weren't able to be up there at sunset when Charlie said it was spectacular, but we got a heck of a view in the middle of the day. Albuquerque area has around one million people and is scattered over quite an area.
Weather has been good, though some of the dust devils that spring up at times can be nasty.
We spent time at the Petroglyphs, but wished had more time to walk the trails.
Later, Lynn
