July 4th on the Pacific

We came from Crater Lake yesterday to Florence, OR.

Real nice park.  Was very windy and 68 degrees when we got here yesterday.  They say wind blows here all the time.  We are going this morning to take quick look at the Sea Lion Caves just north of here.  Will return to the park for a 2:00 pm BBQ and pot luck dunner.

Yesterday we drove around a bit.  Had late lunch on the Siuslaw River (still not sure how you pronounce it).  It runs into the Pacific Ocean here.

Stopped at a Farmers Market and got some fresh vegetables and then also stopped at Safeway to fill up the food pantry.

Crater Lake  Click this link if you want to see the photos we took while there.  I haven't taken the time to completely go through them and remove doubles, etc.

Spent two hours on a boat on the 6 mile wide lake.  This is at elevation of about 7,000 feet--the lake is 1,940 feet deep and is the deepest lake in the United States.  We had spent about 45 minutes going down a zig-zag walking trail.  It took us about an hour and a half to get back up.  Although the water temperature was about 43 degrees, the direct sun made the air temperature near 90 degrees and was intense.

Photos with Brian Miles   Click this link to see when we visited Brian Miiles on his hilltop.   Photo at right is of Brian and his dad Orville in 1961 as they were in Tijuana just prior to Brian leaving on his first Navy ship.
Brian has managed to grow a little more hair since the photo in 1961.

Will add some more later, must shave and then head out for the Sea Lion Cave.
