Trip to Callaway, NE

Clarinda, IA 62º - off and on showers.  Understand Shenandoah had 4" of rain yesterday, but we dumped only 1.6" from our gauge last night when we got home.  Well, it is only 24 hours later and I am continuing this.  (No one ever accused me of being fast!)

Had left Clarinda Tuesday about 7:30 am, heading for Nebraska.  Stopped in Nebraska City to pick up some prescriptions at Walgreen's and also ate breakfast at BurgerKing.  Real cloudy as we headed west, started running in rain around Lincoln all the way to Grand Island.

For years I have followed Roger Welsch, retired Professor from Lincoln, first on Notes from Nebraska on CBS Sunday Morning and last few years daily on Facebook.  Don't agree with his politics, but enjoy his writings.  We had never been to Dannebrog, Nebraska and it was more or less on the way to Broken Bow.  At left is coming in to town.

Post Office - Think population of town is about 300.
Roger, and his wife Linda, live just south of Dannebrog and has several rows of wind break trees all along his place, so this is the view we got at the end of his driveway.
Close up of the sign in the driveway.  We didn't drive in.  The waitress at the tavern in town, where we ate lunch and Roger has mentioned quite frequently, said she was surprised he hadn't been in for lunch that day -- when I inquired about him.

We went on to Broken Bow and stopped at one of our South Texas neighbors who reside in Broken Bow - Helen Ferguson is at right.

And Jake Ferguson is below.
