Another week in paradise

La Feria, TX 71º cloudy/light fog.

Last night a group got together at a neighbor's motor-home to wish daughter of of another neighbor Dan Herbst good luck as she returns to her home in Indiana.  She had accompanied her dad down from Panama, Iowa a few weeks ago and spent time with him as he settled in.  He lost his wife, and her mom, early this summer to cancer.  She had been taking treatments lat winter while she was down here.  The daughter (I can't recall her name) is standing towards the back in the photo, leaning down towards her dad.

Added this photo as Dan is facing camera.  In photo above Terry Serven, from Prairie City, Illinois is sitting on motor home steps.  Her husband, Charlie, is at lower right in photo at right.  Phyllis is in the pink blouse.  Forgot the man's name in the center/right, but he stands near me every morning at exercises.

Saturday evening we pedaled south on Main Street here in La Feria and watched their Christmas Parade.  About a 40 minute parade and lots of businesses/churches/boy scouts, other organizations, etc. participated.

This telephoto picture shows several from Kenwood RV Park getting seats a half a block away and other side of street.

Yesterday (Monday) while Phyllis was at her "Cookie Exchange" I rode the trike and on going through Yellow Rose RV Park a block or so north of us realized they were having their jam so spent an hour listening.  Good group.

I just downloaded these photos from Phyllis' camera and since she is in Mexico right now with a neighbor haven't had a chance to get descriptions.  Basically ones at left are the group during the cookie exchange.  They each brought a dozen cookies and had them on a serving table; each selected a dozen cookies for themselves to bring home.  They also exchanged a under-$5 gift.

Looks like Phyllis had taken photos of the settings that she and some of her helpers had decorated all the tables with prior to the ladies showing up.  (For some reason the men weren't invited to the cookie-exchange; go figure--they did bring the cookies back home to the hubbies, though)

Sunday we went with several other neighbors over to Donna, TX for Chinese Buffet Lunch.

Last week they ladies had an unofficial Red Hat meeting at the Rec Hall.  Saw this photo on the bulletin-board, so you have a photo of a photo.

While the ladies did their Red Hat thing for lunch (Salads) some of the Red-Hat-Bachelor's went to Mercedes to this Mexican restaurant.  Pretty good meal; I had shrimp that were large and tasty.

Saturday we went with Darlene and Bill Winslow in search of some Caterpillar equipment so they could get their picture taken in front of it.  They grandson graduates from college this week in Michigan and is going to work at the Caterpillar headquarters office in Peoria, IL soon.  They are proud of him.

Then we went to Garcia's to get a hamburger.  This place takes a half of beef each morning and renders it all into hamburger.  They make a very large hamburger (We share and still hardly get around it).
Couple of ladies from our park happened to be there and we got to visit with them.  You can see the french fries I am still working on.

Then went on over to Don-Wes market for a bit.  This large flea-market offers many things, including fresh fruit and vegetables.  We spent a little time listening to this entertainment outside the buildings.

More to come later, Lynn
