Wednesday we went with Bill & Darlene and Jim & Lavin to Port Mansfield, TX, about a 50 mile drive. Got close-up look at the wind generators that are being erected close to the gulf of Mexico. Later we stopped within 100 feet of one, but guess I didn't take any photos then. Guess I will have to get some of Bill's pictures. There are many hundreds of the
wind generators along the coast and more being erected.
We hadn't heard about the deer that live in
and around Port Mansfield. The town . isn't very big and I would wonder if there
are more deer than people.
They are really small, at least compared
to the deer we know in Iowa, and are
tame and have become used to people
feeding them. Bill had brought along
a bag of Doritos and some of them would
take one out of your hand. Several
wouldn't come up to the car.
They didn't look to be in the best
of health.
We ate in a small place in town and had some good food, but when I paid the bill--at the counter and with no receipt other than the charge slip -- I asked about the extra 3 or 4 dollars above what I thought the fish and shrimp combo we had shared was priced on the menu and was told that was for the water. As you can see in the picture, this was a
glass of mostly ice with a little tap water. Was good service and good food, but that is the first time I recall paying for water.
On the way back to
Highway 77 we stopped for
the ladies to look at the pots.
Lavin wanted one, but Jim
protested.
A smaller Quilt Phyllis has been working on.
We had a group over to our place for
Pegs & Jokers one night.
