La Feria, TX 67º and 17 mph winds. Was 64º when we got back from Progreso, MX about 11:30 with 24 mph winds out of the north. Prediction was for 82º today, but don't think it is going to make it. I was working on installing more panels in the roof of the new awning in the sun yesterday when it was 84º with no wind and very bright sun. I had the anchor for tooth implant put in this morning and teeth cleaned. Kind of lazing about this afternoon and letting the pain pill do its thing.
Lets see, since last posting was on Thursday.......
In the evening we went to bean bag baseball at the hall.
Friday I stopped in for a bit at the local music jam while riding the recumbent trike.
Late in the afternoon we took Jim & Lavin Boozer and Bill & Twila Oberholzer with us and went to Pharr, TX, did some shopping at Sam's Club and then ended up eating at a Chinese Buffet and Sushi Bar. Had intended to go to Dickies BBQ but found it closed. We then went to Paradise Pharr Mobile Home Park to the show with several people including Tami & Jay.
Saturday morning Ed Stanger and his wife Kay put on a "free gratis" breakfast of pancake, sausage, orange juice, coffee with the help of many to serve it.
Grills being readied.
Sausage ready for the grill
Hand squeezed orange juice ready.
Sausages on the grill and "short Dave" starting to work on the pancakes.
Something over 110 people were served the free breakfast.
Ann Stiles taking order from Ken
Phyllis checking with the orders with Ann.
Tall Dave and Short Dave at the grills. Ed Stanger in the green hat and Harold Williams pouring a pancake. Phyllis looking an as well as Petie Cleveland at the right.
Right after the breakfast, Oliver & Mary Jo Herzberg picked us up and we went to Hidalgo, TX to the State Farm Arena parking area where this year's Borderfest was in it's third day. This year's theme was Mexico. We watched a little over an hour of the 2 hour parade.
This over-sized grocery cart on a racing frame and motor was a highlight.
I posted some 85 pictures of Borderfest on my Facebook page if you want to look at them.
Voladores De Papantla from Veracruz
performed atop a 60 foot pole was very colorful. We had seen this performance at their site near Veracruz, Mexico a couple years ago when on a bus tour.
Estudiantina Gudalupana Potosina
We watched two performances of this group. If you click the link above you can see a U Tube made by San Benito Consolidated School District of them at Migrant Bilingual Education Event Concert May 13, 2011 Veteran's Memorial Academy.
Several really young lads, 6 years old or so, performed their hearts out as they performed on stage and then ran down and sang in front and in the aisles.
Their were lots of displays of Mexico and dresses of the various areas.
Sunday, after singing in the choir at the church service at the Rec Hall, we went with a couple carloads to Santa Rosa for lunch.
Bob & Bobbie Raab, Sharleen and Lynn Stivers and Lynn & Phyllis Miles were at our table.
Sunday evening we helped serve ice cream and then stayed for the music program.
Kenaston Family was the entertainment. They have performed in Wahoo, NE for years and are regularly on RFD-TV. Their drummer is a retired school band director and performed with, and explained, many horn instruments. Good entertainment.
On Monday morning the Kenwood Residents Association meeting was held. Phyllis is Treasurer on the board so was on stage for the meeting.
Monday afternoon I was working on the roof and took this photo of Bill Oberholzer visiting on our deck.
This was work in progress on the new roof. I have 8 of 18 panels on the roof. Surely will be done before we leave around April 1st.
Will keep on keepin' on. Lynn
