Little rain in Glacier NP today

Thursday - in RV Park just outside West Glacier, MT.

Some rain today and will stick around the trailer today.  Watched neighbors fold up canvas fold-up tent in the rain a bit ago.  Not a pretty site.

We spent two days exploring the park in the sunshine. Here are some of the 400-plus photos we have taken so far.

This is inside East Glacier Lodge.  Quite impressive - 60 forty-foot trees were used as the frame of this lodge main entrance.

We snared some fresh cherries to munch on while driving.

Lots of areas on roads outside of the
park have cattle grazing along the
                     road.

This area had major fire in the 1990's, think '96 or '98.

The glaciers scoured out a lot of rock, but left some mighty tall ones.

Many Glacier Hotel.  From this location we went on boat tour which included two boat rides with 1/4 mile hike between lakes to second boat.

On the boat tour.  Of course, some idiot parents had their young kids on and they talked continuously throughout the talk by the guide.  Fortunately we were near the front and the tour guide, but am sure many in the back didn't hear the descriptive narrative.   This has happened on many of our tours on boats or buses - mostly young parents who have never ever told their kids to shut up!  And they have no concern for anyone around them.

Telephoto view of one of the glaciers.  Believe they said some 50 glaciers have disappeared since the late 1800's.

This was on the hike between lakes.  Probably about 50 foot rise and fall and reportedly 1/4 mile, though it seemed longer.

We drove the "Going To The Sun" road in late afternoon.  Quite a drive.  We will be going on this on the Red Bus Tour tomorrow.

This is the Red Bus doing a tour the day we were on the Going To The Sun road.

Full relief map of Glacier in one of the Park Visitor Centers.

Phyllis has hauled sand from the beaches, rocks from some beaches, and added some rocks from this river just outside the park.

As of now we have been on the road 117 days and set up the trailer 44 times; have driven 11,486 miles (6,894 pulling the trailer and 4,592 miles looking through the windshield at the scenery--oh yeah, we also looked through the windshield at the scenery while we were pulling the trailer); have ran 960 gallons of diesel through the Ford Excursion at an average price of $3.81 per gallon.  When we left our home in Texas we were 1,245 miles from hour home in Clarinda, IA.  We are now 1,342 miles from that home.  Seems like the long way home for this "50th Anniversary Trip".
I have put photos up on the Picasa site for Glacier -- haven't checked them over an done sizing, etc., but you can see them here Click here for Glacier photos
Later, Lynn
